What
is a food waste disposer?
A food waste disposer is a simple and convenient kitchen appliance
that grinds food waste into fine particles which automatically
flush away down the sink drain. Mounted discreetly beneath
your sink, the food waste disposer connects directly into
the normal waste system. You simply turn on the cold tap,
feed in the food waste, and turn on; within seconds the food
waste is ground down and gone.
For many years, food waste disposers have been essential appliances
in US kitchens and now homeowners in SA are also discovering
how useful they can be. InSinkErator’s food waste disposers
are quiet, safe and extremely reliable.
How
does a disposer work?
Food waste disposers are mounted beneath the plug hole and
connected directly into the normal sink drain.
Simply wash food waste into the food waste disposer, and turn
on the cold tap. At the touch of a button, food waste is then
ground into fine particles which flush away in the flow of
water. They’re powerful enough to grind almost all types
of food waste.
A food waste disposer never needs emptying, and it’s
easy to keep clean and smelling fresh: simply slice up and
dispose of a lemon!
Is
a disposer safe?
As the leading manufacturer of food waste disposers for over
sixty years, InSinkErator’s safety record is unrivalled.
All our food waste disposers meet rigorous electrical and
mechanical safety standards.
Food waste disposers contain no blades or sharp objects: they
work by grinding the waste between abrasive surfaces. If,
for any reason, the motor jams, then it automatically shuts
down, allowing you to safely remove any foreign objects before
resetting and restarting.
How
long does it take to grind food waste?
It usually only takes a few seconds to dispose of food waste,
although more substantial items like small bones may take
a little longer. Feed the food waste in gradually until it’s
all been ground into small particles (you’ll hear the
sound of the appliance changing when it’s done). Then
simply flush the system through with cold water – for
about 15 seconds – and switch off.
Minimal time, effort and water is required.
What
will a food waste disposer grind?
Food waste disposers can handle virtually all types of food
waste, up to and including small meat bones. Meat itself,
bones from poultry or fish, egg shells, fruit and most vegetables
are all dealt with effortlessly. Food that is particularly
stringy or fibrous (such as corn husks or artichokes) should
be avoided, to prevent clogging.
