The heads of the H2O Franchising Agreement are:

Concept: Either an H2O Water Bar or an H2O Water Shop.

  • Term: 5 years with the option to renew for a further 5 years.
  • Franchise fee: R90 000 + VAT.
  • Setting up costs: R500,000.00-R1.14million
    depending on the type of franchise.
  • Management service fee: 6 percent of monthly purchases.
  • Advertising levy: 2 percent based on monthly purchases.
  • Bottling branding fee: 3 cents per litre.

H2O South Africa ... at the forefront of the booming water and air purification business.

H2O is Southern Africa’s leading water and air purification franchise company, keenly dedicated to increasing public awareness about the necessity of purified water and air in maintaining good health.

Humble beginnings - H2O South Africa was founded in 1994 by Tony Marchesini. The company grew from one branch to over 65 branches and has emerged as the leading force in water purification on the African continent. Its well established network of branches now span the entire African continent, with branches as far as Kenya.

Unique – Tony Marchesini introduced the unique Water Bar concept to the H2O Franchise in 1997. A Water Bar is like a trendy sidewalk café situated in high traffic shopping malls. H2O’s range of products is on display in the shop and shoppers are also presented with a large variety of bottled mineral water.

Continual growth – Over the past few years H2O has grown rapidly. It has embraced the direct selling ethos with the franchise concept as the blueprint for its business operation. H2O is well represented in all major centres and has individually owned branches that are run by Franchisees. Each branch has a dedicated team of sales consultants who do exhibitions, telesales and other direct selling marketing activities.

Broad spectrum - In its early days, H2O primarily distributed the winning range of H2O water purifiers. Progressively more water related types of products were added. Today H2O has positioned itself as a multi-faceted distributor of water related products. The range currently includes H2O’s tried and tested water purifier range, Rio-Vita and Cosmetal water coolers, Wailaan ice machines, the well-known Supreme Water Boilers and now air purifiers.

A question of quality – As the water quality continues to worsen and as people become more health conscious, H2O continues to play a role in educating people about water. It is keenly dedicated to creating awareness about the importance of purified water as part of a healthy lifestyle through its advertising and publicity campaign.

In touch with the Future - Consistent with trends in Europe and other parts of the world, H2O has moved towards the Home and Office (HOD) Delivery Service market. Although this trend is not as well developed as in other parts of the world, H2O has already positioned itself at the forefront of this market in South Africa. Through its well-established franchise network, credible brand and proven business formula, H2O will now be able to include the HOD service in its offering to clients.

Broadening the Market

In 2009 H2O launched its new retail outlet, the H2O Water Shop. This outlet not only sells the popular range of water purifiers and water coolers but also bottles the purified water in both refillable and non refillable bottles and sells this water from only R1.00 a litre. This allows the Franchisee to reach out to more customers who can not afford to invest in a water treatment system for their homes.

H2O's Operating Philosophy

H2O currently has over 65 outlets that markets and sells the range of H2O water purifiers and water dispensers and is structured as a Retail/Direct Selling franchise business.

Apart from these outlets, each outlet appoints their own sales consultants and who market and sell the range of products through in-home presentations and exhibitions. Through training and motivating an established network of committed consultants, marketing possibilities and opportunities within the territory are explored and utilised in full.

H2O International will also encourage all South Africans to clean the air in their homes, offices and motor cars.

H2O will educate the public, making them aware that indoor air quality is up to 5 times more polluted than indoor air. The ultimate aim is to improve the health, well-being and quality of the lives of all that are touched by H2O's quality water and air.

Our mission is also to continue to build H2O International into a brand that will compete with, and be matched, by other beverage companies like Coca-Cola and Nestle and build H2O International into a household name associated with quality, health and prompt service.

H2O CEO, Tony Marchesini ...

Completed his B.Bus.Sci (Hons) MBA (Cum Laude) degree in 1994. Prior to Tony starting the H2O South Africa operation he worked for Italtile LTD and developed the Ceramic Tile Market (CTM) retail concept and set up the franchise thereof. He became the Executive Director of Italtile Pretoria in 1984 and was responsible for the company's products in the then Northern Transvaal. He was later appointed as the Group Marketing Executive of Italtile before resigning in 1992 to move into opening his own water purification business.

Is the Financial and General Manager and holds a B.Com degree in Business Administration. He is responsible for the financial administration of the business.


What kind of a business will you be running?

H2O's products are sold mainly via in-house presentations and at shows. The public can also view, purchase and obtain technical support from one of our outlets. The H2O franchise consists of four divisions and each franchisee is required to operate all four divisions in one allocated franchise marketing area:

H2O Water Bar: This operation is ideally located in a large high traffic shopping mall located in the area chosen. The franchisor will assist the franchisee to source these locations.

H2O Water Shop: This operation is ideally located in a shop in convenience centre where the vehicles can drive up to the front door. Because it involves the sale of purified water in refillable and non refillable bottles access ability is important and high viability is crucial.

Water cooler unit rentals: As part of the set up costs the Franchisee should budget for as many units as possible that when rented out will supply a very good basic continuous income stream.

Air purifier unit rentals: Part of the set up costs is fifty units that when rented out will supply a very good basic continuous income stream.

Set Up Cost: R500 000 - R1 144 000 (excluding VAT) Depending on the type of store set up.

The total set up cost provides you with a complete turnkey operation.

Franchise Fee: R90 000 excluding VAT (Included in the set up costs)

The Franchise Fee is a once-off payment for each franchisee that is opened. It secures the rights to operate a franchise, using The H2O International trademarks and business systems. This fee is included in the set up costs.

Management and marketing franchisee fee

Based on Monthly Purchases from Head Office and Alternative suppliers:

Based on the amount of water purified per month.

  • Bottling Branding Fee: 3 cents per litre.
  • Bottling Management Fee: 6 cents per litre.

Assistance with finance

We can assist with financing through several major banking institutions.

Working Capital:

We recommend R150 000 as an initial start up working capital. This amount can either be provided in the form of an overdraft or your own funding can be used for this. These funds will be used to support your cash flow in the initial start up phase. Please note that head office will provide an account to approved franchisees on a 30 day term.

The majority of sales are made directly – that is, sales consultants calling on prospective customers in their area by telephone and making appointments to discuss and sell products to those who are interested. Sales also come from readers responding directly to the advertising, by contacting the 0800 number and readers responding our website.

H2O’s Direct Selling Ethos

The direct selling concept is the very core of H2O’s mode of operation.

Each franchise operates independently with its own team of sales consultants, marketing and selling the product range at exhibitions and in-house presentations to businesses and homes. Each franchise has its own outlet where the public can view the products, purchase and obtain technical support.

Training

Franchisee and Sales Consultant training is constantly being conducted by Mike Jackson, the National Sales Manager. He has an excellent sales track record and travels the country to conduct training sessions and assisting franchisees.

H2O International offers an intensive in-house training Course for franchisees and managers for one week followed by on-the-job training on one or more sites. Other training courses are also available at various times during the year and will be run on an ongoing basis.

Backup Service

H2O places important emphasis on the quality of installations. Installations of purifiers, coolers and Water Boilers can only be carried out by qualified plumbers. We offer customers a 48-hour call-back service.

Sales Force Profile

The H2O Senior Franchisee

H2O International is particularly interested in people who possess some or all of the following attributes:

  • A people’s person who is able to work with the public and have a pleasant, positive, caring nature.
  • He or she must have very good selling skills; experience in direct selling is preferable.
  • A self motivated and organised person who wants to succeed and be prepared to work as part of a team.
  • Financially and ethically sound person who is genuine with customers, suppliers and the H2O International Support Office.
  • Cash required of approximately 40 percent of the total set-up costs including 6 months personal living expenses while the franchise outlet is being established.

A Franchisee is the key figure, he/she is described as follows:

1. The Franchisee owns and operates his/her own business.

2. The Franchisee has demonstrated the ability to set up an outlet and a network of distributors, executive distributors. He/she manages the business efficiently and has built a solid business track record.

3. He/she identifies and develops key people for future management positions in the business.

4. He/she has the ability to purchase adequate amounts of stock, run a profitable business and continues to build the business, motivate teams and constantly seeks new opportunities to grow the network of people who supports his/her network.

Each Senior Franchisee has a network of dedicated sales people. Starting as a consultant, these people work their way up through hard work and a proven track record with the company.

H2O Three Steps of Opportunity

1. Sales Consultant
You have completed all aspects of training and have great product knowledge. You know how to build value when demonstrating the products and how to get the customer to commit to purchasing the product. You have received instructions on generating leads and organizing appointment schedules.

2. Executive Consultant
You have become highly efficient in all aspects of presentation, product knowledge, generating leads, setting appointments and recruiting. You have written and passed the Executive Consultants Qualifying exam. You will also learn to become more proficient in training and are appointed by your Franchisee if you show leadership qualities and are able to assist a team of at least five consultants.

3. Franchisee
You have performed well as an Executive Consultant and you have become familiar with all facets of the H2O business, the products, procedures and values.

You have the necessary infrastructure to handle the management of an office, customer relations, financing, sales meetings and training. You will also become more skilled in the training and in motivating new consultants to grow their business. You own and operate your own business within a Water Bar or Direct outlet approved by the Franchisor.

You have demonstrated the ability to set up an outlet and a network of consultants and executive consultants. You manage the business efficiently and have built a solid business track record. You identify and develop key people for future management positions in the business. You have the ability to purchase adequate amounts of stock, run a profitable business and continue to build the business, motivate teams and constantly seek new opportunities to grow the network of people who support your business.

Water Purifiers - USA

The H2O range of countertop, under sink, in-line appliance cartridges, shower systems and whole-house units are TRIED, TESTED and TRUSTED in over 54 countries worldwide. H2O uses the latest in cutting-edge technology in water purification. The main line of products uses the latest in KDF (Kinetic Degradation Fluxion) technology, a patented medium in combination with the finest GAC (Granular Activated Carbon). In addition to these components, H2O recently added a unique patented Riolyte formula to some of its products. The Riolyte component contains specially formulated mineral components that are mixed into the media bed. Riolyte gently releases these minerals into the water, making the water more palatable.

Water Coolers

H2O's fine range of Rio Vita hot & cold water coolers are manufactured in Seoul, Korea by Clover Corporation and are imported directly. All products carry the TUV and SABS Certification.

We have recently added economy coolers and countertop machines to our Rio Vita range to win the price war with competitors who have been trying to undercut H2O International. Born in 1963, Cosmetal has adapted its activities over time in order to answer to emerging markets and has managed to become the international award winning leader in the manufacturing of water coolers and water fountains for more than twenty years.
